What are FIDA Conventions?
Since the first convention was held in 1945 in Havana, Cuba, every three years FIDA brings together the international community of women lawyers in different countries around the world to host an international convention to promote and advance the improvement of laws relating to women’s and children’s human rights.
Thus, through conferences, panels and workshops, legal experiences dealt by the judiciary in different countries and current debates about women and children will be explored. At this convention, practical strategies will be implemented in relation to the ecological impact and the reduction of carbon footprints as a challenge for our organization, in line with the SDGs.
The FIDA Federation has worked tirelessly for 80 years to advance the social and legal rights of women and children worldwide, maintaining an active presence in over 73 countries across 5 continents.

This year’s convention venue is Cali, Colombia. FIDA triennial convention venues rotate between different regions and countries and the elected president has the opportunity to host them. This year’s conferences will take place at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Cali.
Cali is a city that captivates with its title of world capital of salsa and seduces with its cultural diversity and gastronomic offer.

This year Cali will be the site of four international events: FIDA’s International Convention, The Petronio Alvárez Pacific International Festival now in August which will be attended by Prince Harry and Maghan Markle. The Women’s under twenty world Soccer Cup also at the end of August and Cop 16 in October, the Environmental World Conference which will be attended by 12.000 people and ends on the first of November just before FIDA”S Convention. As from the first of January we have a new Mayor who has trebled the police force and endeavoured to ensure the safety of Cali.FIDA members welcome to Cali one of the most secure cities in Latin America.
Cali hosts FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
Colombia opens its doors to today’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. With 23 teams and more than 30 thousand visitors, who will follow their teams to the different cities where the championship is taking place. Cali which hopes to specialize in sports tourism is a place to visit. Cali will also be the site of the World Environmental Conference COP 16 which will take place in October 2024 and will be followed by the International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA World Conference. COP16 begins in Cali: Global urgency to protect biodiversity and the environment
The COP16, the largest UN summit on biodiversity, has officially started in Cali, Colombia, bringing together 196 delegations from across the globe. Representatives will discuss crucial plans and strategies to safeguard the environment for the future. This gathering positions Cali as a hub for international collaboration focused on protecting natural ecosystems and addressing the growing challenges to biodiversity. The summit underscores the critical need for immediate action to ensure the planet’s ecological balance and sustainability.FIDACON24 Opens Its Doors in Cali, Colombia
Today marks the beginning of the FIDA International Triennial Convention, Colombia 2024 (#FIDACON24), with delegations from FIDA chapters worldwide attending the opening ceremony at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Cali.
Distinguished guests graced the opening event, including Congresswoman Cha Dorina Hernández Palomino, the Mayor of Candelaria, Valle del Cauca, Gessica Vallejo, and the Mayor of Guadalajara de Buga, Karol Vanessa Martínez. Joining them were FIDA President Carolina Ríos Villota and Honorary Lifetime President Ángela Cuevas De Dolmetsch, who warmly welcomed attendees in a gathering dedicated to advancing women’s rights and strengthening the legal profession.
The convention marks a milestone on FIDA’s international agenda, bringing together women lawyers from around the world to address key issues in justice and equity.
President of FIDA International meets with local media to announce the federation’s purpose
At a formal breakfast, the president of FIDA International, Carolina Ríos Villota, met with journalists from local media in the company of Kumudini Wickremasinghe, judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, and Amina Agbaje, human rights activist and president of FIDA Nigeria. During the meeting, they shared their knowledge and experiences about FIDA’s work in Colombia.

The official currency is the Colombian Peso (COP$). Yes, there are currency exchange offices located at the airport and in the vicinity of the convention venue.
The registration fee includes entrance to the opening ceremony, as well as refreshments and lunches during the congress days, plus the gala evening.
The registration fee does not include the following services: airfare, accommodation, transportation to/from the airport, transfers between the hotel and the convention and the tourism day (Wednesday 6 November).
